HARRISONVILLE, Mo. — More than a 150 people attended a candle light vigil at a Raytown home Monday night to remember 17-year-old Kalan Littlefield who drowned Sunday afternoon.
Friends said Littlefield fell off a jet ski on a private pond south of Harrisonville and drowned.
Major Jeff Weber with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department said Littlefield was on the watercraft with another young man. Neither one was wearing a life-jacket and both fell, Weber said. Both struggled to get back on the jet. The other young man managed to make it to shore. Kalan did not. Friends said he was a decent swimmer but likely panicked when he fell into the water.
Authorities said Kalan was from Kingsville, Mo., but had previously attended Raytown High School. Friends remember him as a gifted athlete and someone who could make people feel special.
“There’s just no words to describe what kind of pain I feel for him,” said Brandon Thomas.
Thomas said he and Littlefield were like brothers — having spent most of their time together since the age of five.
The Thomas’ said they were like a second family to Littlefield.
“He’s in a better place looking down on us and trying to give us strength,” Ms. Thomas said.
A Facebook page has been set up in Littlefield’s honor.
On Friday night another man — and former student of Raytown High School — Brett K. Baslee, 26, drowned at Longview Lake.
