KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two people were killed Thursday morning in an accident on Interstate 49 (also known as 71 Highway) in Kansas City, Mo. Police said a man and woman traveling in a car were killed when they were involved in an accident with a tractor-trailer. They were identified as John E. Miller, 68, and Barbara A. Miller, 64, a married couple from south Kansas City.
The crash happened at Harry Truman Drive just south of Blue Ridge Boulevard around 7:10 a.m. Police said that the Miller’s vehicle entered the highway and hit the right side of the tractor-trailer and spun underneath. The vehicle came out from under the trailer after it struck a guardrail. The Miller’s were pronounced dead at the scene.
Southbound lanes of I-49 were shut down for a time. According to MoDOT, traffic was redirected to the outer roads and Harry Truman Drive to allow emergency responders and highway crews to repair a guard rail and clear the scene. The highway has since reopened
