KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Neighbors are demanding action after a mother and her young daughter were found dead in their home on Friday night.
“I believe that there are people who care about her and her baby. I am one of them,” said Carla Stewart, who lives nearby.
The city’s latest homicide victims prompted outrage in the Blue Hills neighborhood near 55th and Wabash Avenue.
Police believe someone killed Myeisha Turner and her 3-year-old daughter, Damiah White.
Neighbors said they didn’t know the young mother and her child, but they want people to know they care deeply about what happened here.
“Everyone is getting tired of this,” Stewart said. “I know I’m getting tired. Whoever knew anything about this; it should weigh on their conscience. God is not pleased with all this violence.”
Across the street from the crime scene there are door hangers urging people to step up and speak up when they know about violence. But it appears no one took that advice before a relative came to check on Turner, her daughter and a young son on Friday. Police said the family member found the doors to their duplex open and blood inside the home.
Police said a small boy, who was not hurt, had been taken from the home. Neighbors said Turner and her children had just moved in within the last week.
“It’s disheartening to say the least,” said neighbor Alonzo “Tariq” Banks. “There are no words that can really convey a death anywhere. A child being shot, from what I hear in the back, it’s disheartening.”
At least one neighbor said shots were heard on the block Thursday, but police aren’t saying whether they are related to these deaths or not.
One neighbor told FOX 4 he suspected something was wrong. But he admitted no one bothered to call the police.
The Ad Hoc Group Against Crime is staging a vigil Sunday at five o’clock in the evening, for family and friends of Myeisha Turner and Damiah White. The crime prevention group will go door-to-door in the neighborhood seeking information about the case. Ad Hoc said Damiah would have turned 4-years-old next month.
