TAUNTON, Mass. — A Massachusetts pooch is lucky to be alive after getting struck by a car and then going on an 11-mile ride while stuck in the car’s grill.

According to WCVB.com, the unidentified driver of a Toyota Camry was travelling at 50 mph on a Massachusetts highway when he struck the unnamed female white poodle-bichon frise mix. Authorities say that the driver stopped, but when they didn’t see the dog they continued on their journey.

“Then (the driver) got into East Providence, 11 miles later, someone flagged him down and told him the dog was still stuck in the grill of his car,” said East Providence, RI, animal control supervisor William Muggle said.

The driver went to the local police department, where animal control officers removed the dog from a vent area just below the car’s front license plate, WCVB reports.

The dog was taken to a vet, where she was diagnosed with a mild concussion and other minor injuries. She was later returned to her owner.

“For her to hold on for 11 miles and survive that journey is nothing short of a miracle,” Muggle said.
