BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. — Authorities say that four people were arrested and face charges as part of a prostitution sting at a Bonner Springs massage parlor.
Chen Li, 48, and Angela Chen, 57, face charges of prostitution and operating a massage parlor without a license, while Hong Jia Liao, 49, and Gui Hong Xiao, 42, each face charges of operating a spa without a license.
According to authorities, all of the accused are natives of China, and only Chen Li holds U.S. citizenship.
“Because of the Chinese citizenship, their information was given to ICE who I believe are opening up their own investigation to see if there’s any possibility of human trafficking, so that will be pursued on the federal level,” said Lt. Rick Schubert of the Bonner Springs Police Department.
Authorities say that the sting occurred at businesses in the 100 block of N. 130th Street and the 13000 block of Kansas Avenue. According to police, citizen complaints about the businesses not having a valid license, along with concerns that only men were patronizing the businesses led to the investigation.
Lt. Schubert says that this is the first case of prostitution to ever be prosecuted in Bonner Springs.
All four suspects remain in custody in the Wyandotte County Jail.
