OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A metro mom and her sons were rattled after their SUV was shot up on a metro highway. Now, police are trying to figure out if it was a case of road rage.

The victim is asking FOX 4 not to reveal her identity because no arrests have been made in this case. She says it’s not fair to call the incident road rage because there was no argument, no weird lane changes or even honking that led to shots being fired at her on the highway.

“I wasn’t into it with anyone,” the victim said. “I don’t have enemies.”

The 38-year-old says she was driving home on Sunday night on I-635 with her three songs ages, seven, 12 and 17-years-old. Seven bullets hit her SUV near the Merrian Lane exit.

“I started to turn around to see if the two in the back were okay because of the glass,” she said. “I was thinking you know the glass on them and the 7-year-old was crying. He was saying that he he had something in his eye, something about his eye.”

The mom says she heard at least ten shots being fired. At least four of the bullets actually hit her SUV.

“One of the bullets actually hit the engine so the car is done,” she said. “It’s not drivable it won’t start.”

The second bullet hit right under her seat, amazing neither she nor her sons were seriously injured.

“Looking at all the marking yesterday in daylight and seeing where all the bullets where they hit, where they entered, where they exited, just thank God,” she said .

The victim believes she may have been caught in the middle of a shoot out between two cars because most of the bullets came from the driver side but bullet four shattered the passenger windshield.  The mom says it’s a good thing none of her boys were sitting in the middle row.

“I haven’t driven since Sunday,” she said. “I haven’t got behind the wheel of any car so I don’t know when I take that road or if I will take that road or stretch of highway again. How’s that going to impact me, how are my children going to feel?”

The victim didn’t get a good look at the suspect’s car. Now, she has no car because she only had liability insurance so she can’t fix the window, the four bullet holes or her engine.
