KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Hundreds of future leaders were honored Sunday for their involvement in the community. The average age of the distinguished guests was only 16.
Eight-hundred and fifty Eagle Scouts spent thousands of hours working on service projects to help local schools, parks and non-profits.
The Eagle Scout award is the highest award a Boy Scout can achieve.
This year, the National Heart of America Council had the unique honor of having more than twice the number of scouts earn the Eagle Scout award than last year.
“A young man essentially has to write a business plan and then complete it and the other thing it does — it puts them in the largest fraternity,” explained Heart of America Council Scout Executive Kenn Miller.
“They will have connections anywhere they travel in the country, through their work, through their church, community. They will have friends for life by being an Eagle Scout,” Miller continued.
The scouts also saluted the Eagle Scout class of 1962 who marked their 50th anniversary.
