KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs’ acquisition of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith was made official on Tuesday afternoon.
Pending a physical, several reports have indicated that the Chiefs will give up this year’s second round pick, and a conditional mid-round pick in 2014. San Francisco released a statement confirming the trade on 49ers.com.
Smith was a Heisman trophy finalist at Utah, and the first overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft. Over his eight seasons in the NFL, Smith threw for 14,280 yards, 81 touchdowns, and 63 interceptions.
