MERRIAM, Kan. — Before you build their furniture, IKEA has to build their store and it all gets started Tuesday morning.
The Swedish furniture maker will break ground on its new Merriam store in the morning. It’s such a big deal even Governor Sam Brownback is expected to be there holding his golden shovel.
JE Dunn will build the 359,000 square foot store.
The decision to put the store in the metro made headlines in the midwest. Right now, the closest stores are in Minneapolis, Chicago, Denver and Dallas.
IKEA is expected to open next fall.
