KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 14-year-old boy charged with an attack on an ATA bus driver made an appearance in juvenile court in Jackson County on Tuesday. The juvenile, who is not being identified because he is not facing adult charges, was accused of beating the driver, along with 20-year-old Lewis Perkins.
On Wednesday, the judge reduced the 14-year-old’s charges to second-degree assault, to which the teen admitted to. His punishment is presently unknown. He was already on probation when he was arrested for the July attack of the bus driver at 31st and Cleveland.
Perkins faces charges of 1st degree assault and armed criminal action. Police say that Perkins’ mother recognized him from the bus surveillance video. Perkins’ father is also a KCATA bus driver.
The teen will be admitted to an “out of home residential facility for long term treatment.” He will not have any more hearings.
