KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A recent assault involving Craigslist has police issuing some safety advice when meeting somewhere to buy or sell from the site. They suggest making sure to always go to a very public location in daylight to do so.
More than 60 million people per month in the United Sates alone use Craigslist. Unfortunately criminals also use it as a way to scam or even rob victims.
“Don’t go to a private residence. Don’t go to a second or third location. Go to a mall or convenience store or even a police station,” advised Sgt. Rob Rickett with the Kansas City Police Department’s Fraud Unit.
Police also suggest showing up a little early to allow ample time to take down driver’s license information and a car description. They also encourage buyers to use cash for their purchases, to avoid giving away any personal information.
