KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A man in his late twenties has been charged in connection to an armed robbery which took place at a CVS on 921 Main Street in Kansas City, Mo. around 4:15 p.m., Saturday.
Police were dispatched to the downtown store where witnesses said a black male had entered the store, jumped over the counter, and allegedly assaulted a female clerk then held a meat cleaver to her throat.
After grabbing cash from the register, the man exited the store while being followed by several witnesses. They reportedly saw the man walk to the area of 12th and Mcgee Street where he then boarded an ATA bus.
Kansas City, Mo. Police Officers later pulled over the bus where they located a man who fit the suspect description given by witnesses, then took him into custody. Police identified the suspect as Ronaldo D. Conway, 29, Kansas City, Mo. At the time of the arrest, officers found both a meat cleaver and the stolen money in Conway’s possession.
Around 4:30 p.m. Conway was transported by police to the location where the armed robbery took place. There witnesses, including the woman who was allegedly assaulted along with several others, identified Conway as the man who had committed the crime.
Conway was taken to police headquarters where he was booked on charges of first degree robbery and armed criminal action. Later that day Conway, after waiving his Miranda rights, made a statement to police and denied having anything to do with the robbery. Prosecutors requested a bond of $50,000 cash for Conway.
