Hartford, CT (WFSB) — A disturbing discovery inside a Hartford home as investigators located a man dead along with possibly 100 cats.

Animal control officers received complaints of a home on Bannister Street having too many cats.

When police arrived on Friday afternoon to remove the cats, there were about 100 cats inside including some dead felines at the residence.

When they went inside the residence, they also found a man’s body in the bathroom. Investigators have been unable to determine how long the man has been dead for.

Before police could determine what happened at the residence, they had to air out the home.

It’s believed that the man lived at the home with an elderly woman, who owns the residence. That woman went to a local hospital a few days ago and remained there on Friday.

Neighbors said they have seen the cats and smelled them.

“Oh yeah I’ve seen them, I smell it all the time,” said Rachel Rodriguez of Windsor. “So many cats and so much poop, you could smell when the wind blows.”

The body remained in the home Friday evening along with firefighters.

Animal control officers have been to the home previously.
