KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office has charged Christopher Stewart, 28, for his alleged role in a fatal crash that killed 62-year-old Graciela Olivas on Monday. Stewart has been charged with first-degree murder, fleeing to elude police and interference with a law enforcement officer. All charges are felonies.

The Kansas Highway Patrol told FOX 4 that KCK police officers saw suspicious activity they believed was drug related at 27th and Shawnee Drive on Monday. As one of the vehicles drove away, a traffic violation was committed by the driver and police attempted a traffic stop.

The driver, suspected to be Stewart, did not pull over and sped away east on Shawnee Drive, and crashed a few blocks later into the car driven by Olivas. He was charged with first-degree murder under the idea that he killed Olivas while in the process of committing a separate, dangerous felony.

A press release indicates that Stewart is also in custody for an arrest warrant for failure to appear in court on an unrelated charge. He will make a first appearance in court on Friday for the charges announced on Thursday, his bond is currently set at $1 million.
