The Kansas City Crime Stoppers have partnered with the Northland Coalition in association with northland area school districts and law enforcement to provide the Northland Safe School Task Force’s Text-a-Tips program.
Roughly five years ago the idea of a school based, anonymous texting option for students to report administrative, as well as criminal activity, was introduced to northland schools by the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline. In the interim, the Northland Safe School Task Force (NSSTF), with assistance from the Northland Coalition, has administered the program with successful results.
Due to the growth of the program, the NSSTF reached out to Crime Stoppers to assist in administering the program. An agreement was reached that will allow the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline to administer the program in a similar manner as it handles its existing “adult” program.
Since the agreement, the Kearney and Liberty, Missouri School Districts have also joined giving their students the ability to report anonymous information. Each school has been provided a “key word” of their choosing which will allow the dissemination of the information to the appropriate parties.
