ENID, Okla. — A woman in Enid, Okla., claims a spaghetti strainer is a symbol of freedom — religious freedom.
When posing for her driver’s license photo, Shawna Hammond asked if she could wear her religious headwear. She was told she could.
“It just couldn’t have any logos or any type of writing,” she said in an interview with KFOR-TV. It also couldn’t cover her face.
Hammond went out to her car to retrieve the colander. When she walked back into the building with the strainer on her head she got a few chuckles.
“She giggled, gave me a funny look and asked me what religion I was,” Hammond said. “I told her I was Pastafarian.”
According to KFOR-TV, Pastafarianism is a religion with “no strict rules and regulations, there are no rote rituals and prayers and other nonsense.”
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said they will review the photo to ensure it follows all the rules, and if it does, they may consider making some changes about religious headwear.
