KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The University of Kansas Hospital reported on Wednesday afternoon that test results from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirm a male patient in its care does not have Ebola. The man has been moved to lower level isolation according to the hospital.
The hospital on Tuesday released preliminary Ebola test results at a news conference that were also negative for the virus. A blood sample sent to a lab in Omaha came back negative, the results from the CDC are said to be the final confirmation.
Dr. Lee Norman, chief medical officer of the hospital, said the patient continually showed improvement, his fluids returned to a normal level and he had been feeling more comfortable and optimistic.
The man, who is in his 40s, complained of a high fever and other serious Ebola-like symptoms, contacted and then entered The University of Kansas Hospital around 6 a.m. on Monday. The hospital said the patient recently worked as a medical officer on a commercial ship off the west coast of Africa and had a low-to-moderate risk of Ebola.
