KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It’s been a hard 10 days, but Kansas City Royals superfan Jimmy Faseler is finally out of the hospital. He was released on Tuesday after he was shot in his own home during a burglary.
Faseler says he couldn’t have done it without the outpouring of support from the community and the love of his family. He’s still in a lot of pain, having undergone surgeries and physical therapy. The procedures are helping him walk after he could barely stand.
“They literally saved my life. I’m thankful for the power of modern medicine,” Faseler said.
On March 22, Independence police arrested two people, 41-year-old Phillip Kisner and 18-year-old Dustan Donlan. Both are charged in Jackson County with burglary for allegedly breaking into Faseler’s home, and second-degree murder in the death of 16-year-old Dylan Thompson, who was killed during the shooting.
Susan Faseler said the outlook for her son’s recovery hasn’t always been positive, but is grateful for his improvement.
“When we heard the news, we weren’t sure this was going to be the outcome. I’m thankful. I’m very thankful,” she said.
Faseler says baseball has also played a role in his recovery. Members of the Royals community have sent gifts, tokens of support and even tickets to opening day.
“I wanted them to know their encouragement and support really kind of helped get me back on my feet,” Faseler said.
As for Faseler’s trademark belly dancing Royals fans have been accustomed to seeing, he says he won’t do that for quite a while. He told FOX 4’s Sean McDowell his belly is still healing from the surgery.
Doctors say he can go to Opening Day on Monday, but he has to take it easy, and he’s expected to make a full recovery. Faseler also plans to visit his workplace next week, but won’t work a full schedule for at least a few more weeks.
