Kansas City, Mo. — We are just four days away from KU’s semi-final showdown with the Buckeyes in the final four this weekend. Of course fans are proud of their Jayhawks, but there are two fans in the metro who are especially proud, because their son is the only player on the team who can call this his second trip to the Final Four.
Conner Teahan’s parents say this team is incredibly focused, Teahan himself is so focused that mom keeps reminding him to smile and look like he’s having fun. The proud parents say it has been a season of ups and downs but this team works hard, so don’t sell them short.
Mark and Donna Teahan say their son has been predicting since the beginning of the season that this team would do better than anyone thought.
“He said ‘mom I know people don’t think much of this team but we work hard and we work together’ and he thought that was good,” Donna says. “So, people didn’t give them much hope but we always did.”
The Rockhurst High graduate may have learned that work ethic while on the team back in 2008. As a freshman, Conner was a walk on on the team. He told his parents then that the team worked hard and worked together and had a lot of fun together, and he says that this years team is like that too.
The Teahans say it was fun to be apart of the 2008 excitement, but this year is different for them.
“I am more nervous as a parent this year, freshman year was exciting for us but now it’s like we live and die every game,” says Donna, and Mark agreed adding “every play!”
It has been the kind of tournament where you never know what’s going to happen next, lots of ups and downs, but KU is proving they have fight.
“It may not have been the prettiest way to get there but we’re there,” says Mark. “It really is anybody’s final four to win, yeah we wanna win it, we would love nothing more than to win it.”
Donna adds “they do not give up and that’s’ what will take us to the championship game.”
