KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Seniors, apparently with a bad case of “senior-itis” and silliness, let three live chickens loose Tuesday morning in the cafeteria at Staley High School, 2800 NE Shoal Creek Pkwy.
Officials with the North Kansas City School District confirm that three live chickens were, in fact, “unscheduled visitors” and caused a slight disruption, but were quickly contained.
Many students and parents were unhappy when they heard the five students involved would be suspended and would not be allowed to walk in the upcoming graduation ceremony. (See tweets below.) However, at about 4 p.m, the school sent out a release and said the students were sent home and would not be able to return to school until their parents have conferences with school officials about the incident. Principal Clark Mershon indicated that the students will be allowed to participate in senior activities, including walking at commencement.
By midday, the chickens had a new home with a local family that raises chickens for eggs and as pets.
