KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Local mail carriers weren’t just making deliveries on Saturday. They also picked up thousands of pounds of food for hungry families.
The U.S. Postal Service is on a mission. Mail carrier Mike Childs walked the 10 miles of his route with mail and canned goods on Saturday.
“It gets kind of heavy sometimes,” Childs said.
Childs said he’s always surprised by the generosity of people on his route. They are always quick to help their favorite door to door entertainer. It’s all part of Stamp Out Hunger. The program helps Harvesters feed 66,000 people a week.
“You walk three to four blocks carrying canned goods and they start adding up, but it’s for a good cause,” he said.
The mail carrier says he knows some of the people donating food are in desperate need themselves.
