INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Some Habitat for Humanity homes in Independence were in need of some serious TLC. So, students from Vatterott College got together on Saturday to donate their time and talent to the community.
It’s the fourth year students from Vatterott have teamed up with the Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity. A partnership that is proving to be a win for everyone involved. Students learn while they work.
“We’re getting some hands on experience,” said student Melissa Matthews.
“We learn what goes into the construction of a house,” said Jess Jolliff, student.
The organization agrees that students are seeing how things work first hand.
“It’s great for the students to get out they have walls in their lab but it’s a little different when you get to a real house and they can see the environment they’re going to be working in,” said Michael Fisher with Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat also gets some extra volunteers with a skill set that hits the nail on the head!
