KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A historical Kansas City luxury home with all the bells and whistles is up for auction
The 9,000 square foot penthouse located at 5049 Wornall Road in Kansas City, Missouri, which has silk fabric covered walls and gold plated fixtures, also has some killer views: a private garden, the plaza, and from afar you can even make out the stadiums.
“When you go up the elevator which is to your own private level, the top two floors here, the lights come on automatically and reveal hand painted Chinese wallpaper so you know it’s a pretty special place before you even take a step,” said Greg Duncan, the vice president of Cates Auction & Real Estate Co.
The owner moved out of state and opted to auction off the space. The property is located at The Walnuts on the Country Club Plaza, and is expected to be sold at the end of January.
“This property will sell to the highest bidder over the minimum bid of $1.5 million. The seller has nearly $7 million invested in the property,” said Duncan.
The upgrades include a 100 square foot window in the game room and a 1,000 square foot outdoor terrace with fountains and irrigated landscaping.
It could take days to discover all the special details of this mini mansion.
“Just to come in and turn all the lights on took a little over half an hour, but to really understand what makes it unique, all of that took quite a while for our whole team to work out,” he said.
A wool runner covers a winding staircase that was once pink marble but now painted to match hardwood.
“There’s even an entire pantry lined in red velvet, red felt for your silver service,” Duncan said.
It’s a place fit for royalty. The condo was previously owned by Charles Price, the ambassador to Great Britain.
“He entertained Prince Charles, Margaret Thatcher, Ronald and Nancy Reagan. All of whom spent the night in this very room,” said Duncan.
To be eligible for the auction, you must register. The auction is Friday, January 30, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. inside the penthouse at The Walnuts.
