It sounds like folklore, but it’s not. Wildlife officials in the Florida Everglades captured and killed a 16-foot Burmese python that had recently swallowed a 76-pound deer. Whole.
They even have pictures to prove it.
According to a report from CNN, wildlife officials killed the python because they’re not native to the area and are upsetting the balance of nature in the Everglades. Pythons don’t have any native enemies in the Everglades, save for Florida wildlife officials.
According to the South Florida Water Management District, the female snake weighed 215.4 pounds with the deer, and 139.1 pounds without it. From head to tail, the reptile measured 15.65 feet.
Pythons usually eat rodents, birds or smaller snakes. Officials said this python was likely a pet at one time whose owner let her loose after it grew too big.
