JEFFERESON CITY, Mo. — On Monday, Attorney General Chris Koster said a Kansas City adult daycare will pay the state of Missouri more than $67,000 for fraudulently billing Medicaid, after Koster accused the daycare of charging Missouri’s Medicaid program for services that it did not provide.
An investigation by the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit found that on several days between November 2009 through January 2011, Adult Daycare Villas, LLC, and its owner-operator, June Porter-LaMothe, failed to provide several of its elderly and disabled residents the full-day of services for which it billed Medicaid.
In addition to repaying the state $8,806.41 for its fraudulent billings, Adult Daycare Villas, LLC will be required under the settlement to pay damages of $26,419.23, penalties of $25,000, and $7,500 for the costs of the state’s investigation. Adult Daycare Villas, LLC, will no longer be allowed to provide any services under the Medicaid program. The agreement further bars the operator of the company, June Porter-LaMothe, from providing any services that will be billed directly or indirectly to Medicaid.
“It is shameful when Missouri’s scarce health-care resources are fraudulently taken by a provider, leaving citizens without the important services to which they are entitled,” Koster said. “My office will continue to investigate and prosecute those who steal from the Medicaid program and from the Missourians who rely on the program to receive the medical care they need.”
