LAWRENCE, Kan. — A piece of a historic fence on the University of Kansas campus is missing.
University of Kansas officials want to know what happened to a five foot section of this cast iron fence that runs along 14th street near Jayhawk Boulevard. The fence is more than one hundred years old. The section was reported missing Sunday Morning. They’re just asking for whoever might have taken it to return it without any questions asked.
“We would hope to just get any of the cast iron pieces back that might be out there somewhere and that’s all we want. I would just like to have them back so we can retain the historic integrity of this fence,” said Monte Soukup of the KU Endowment.
The fence once surrounded a mansion that used to stand on the property before the family of the first governor of Kansas, Charles Robinson, sold it to the university in 1940.
