Burglar makes off with less than $5 in Optimist Club heist

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Members of the Optimist Club of Sugar Creek, Mo., showed up Thursday morning to open their building, only to find the front door had been kicked open.

They called police before going in, fearing someone could still be inside. However, when police arrived, it was apparent the person had already left. A club member said the suspect had taken the club’s register with less than five dollars inside.

The club member laughed, saying they empty the register every night, but added that it was a shame because they use the money to help kids and families in the community.

The front door was damaged and an exterior door alarm was removed from the building.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline, 816-474-TIPS.
