KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Singing the National Anthem can be nerve-racking. Blue Springs native David Cook openly admits it.
“If you screw it up, you’re YouTube fodder for the next 20 years,” he said during a recent interview on FOX 4. Cook sang the National Anthem during Monday night’s All-Star Home Run Derby.
And while Cook has never embarrassed the country by messing up the words, there are those who have — and then there are those who write the lyrics on their hands (just in case).

That’s what country singer Luke Bryan did for his performance at the All-Star game Tuesday night. The “Tailgates and Tanlines” artist was caught glimpsing at his hand during a squinty-eyed performance. But squinty eyes or not, the close-up camera shots gave him away and viewers at home called him out on Twitter.
On Wednesday, Bryan responded, offering up a heart-felt explanation.
