COUNCIL BLUFF, Iowa — The Blue Valley West High School wrestling team had a close call on Friday after their van hit a slick spot on I-29 and rolled over while the team was on their way to a tournament in Nebraska.

One person was treated for sore ribs, but otherwise nobody was injured in the accident, which occurred on northbound I-29, approximately 25 miles south of Council Bluff.

According to authorities, the van – which was carrying seven wrestlers and was being driven by an assistant coach – lost control after hitting some ice, slid into the median and rolled over, coming to rest on its side.

The team, which left the school around 6:00 a.m. on Friday morning, was headed to a wrestling tournament in Columbus, Nebraska, at the time of the accident.
