CLEVELAND (AP) — The man who was eating his McDonalds meal when he heard the screams of Amanda Berry, missing for a decade in Cleveland, can eat burgers every day for free, if he so chooses.
More than a dozen Cleveland-area restaurants have promised free burgers to Charles Ramsey, 43, who many say saved the lives of three missing women found inside the home of Ariel Castro in early May.
Hodge’s Cleveland, the restaurant where Ramsey worked as a dishwasher, created a special burger in his honor shortly after Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight were rescued on May 6.
Ramsey’s famous interview has been replayed and shared millions of times.
“I went to Mcdonalds. I came home. I’m eating my Mcdonalds. I got the day off from work so naturally you’re doing nothing. And I hear this girl screaming. And she going nuts. So I come outside. And I know there’s nobody that’s supposed to be screaming next door to my house cuz there’ s no girl that lives in the house. So that’s a dead giveaway that something’s wrong,” Ramsey said.
