SHAWNEE, Kan. — Friends and customers held a vigil Friday night in honor of a co-owner of “She’s a Pistol” gun shop in Shawnee who was killed after an attempted robbery at his store. People, some of whom didn’t even know each other, came together on Facebook to put a vigil together in honor of Jon Bieker.
“You’re not a stranger when you go in there, it’s a family-oriented environment,” said Michael Rogers, a regular customer of the shop. “It wasn’t just a gun business they did a lot of training to help people be prepared to take care of themselves and be ready to take care of somebody else if needed.”
People at the vigil said Bieker was a great man and business owner. They told FOX 4 he was helpful to customers, extremely focused on gun safety and even encouraged people not to buy a gun if they didn’t feel comfortable with it.
“We wanted to make sure we came out and showed our support for them, our love for them in this time of need and tragedy,” said Amber Nowels, a customer. “There’s no reason for this to happen.”
Rogers said Bieker was constantly offering gun safety training to members of the community. The group said they will continue to shop at “She’s a Pistol” to show their love and support for the Bieker family.
