KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The third day of testimony in the Zoey Belcher custody hearing got underway on Thursday. The two sides continue to seek custody of the orphan daughter left behind after former Chiefs’ player Jovan Belcher. Belcher took his own life and that of Kasandra Perkins, Zoey’s mother, last December.

So far today only one witness has taken the stand in Jackson County probate court. Sophie Perkins is the cousin of Kasandra Perkins. Sophie Perkins’ attorney questioned her at length about her character and involvement in church and in charities and how those factors could affect Zoey.

She is seeking sole custody of the nine-month-old infant just as Cheryl Shepherd is. Shepherd is Jovan Belcher’s mother. Testimony is scheduled to conclude today.
