OLATHE, Kan. — After a four-hour standoff with one of its own deputies, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ethan S. Moss, a six-year veteran of the force on Thursday. Moss was charged with one count of aggravated assault, five counts of criminal restraint and one count of domestic battery on Friday according to a press release.

Officers were called to a home on the 32500 block of 174th Terrace in Gardner, Kansas at about 6 a.m. on Thursday. There was a reported domestic argument and while Moss allowed five others in the home to leave at some point, he refused to come out of the home. Four of the people initially restrained were under the age of 18 according to court records.

His refusal to vacate the home prompted an Operation 100 that required a special team of negotiators to help coax him out. He eventually surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.

Both the aggravated assault and domestic battery charges are felonies, the five counts of criminal restraint are misdemeanors. Moss is being held in the Johnson County jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond. He made his first appearance on Friday and is due back in court next Thursday according to online court records.
