LAWRENCE, Kan. – Police are investigating a double fatality accident which occurred late Saturday night.

Rodney Strickell, 53 of Wellsville, and Dylan Strickell, 17, of Lawrence, were traveling together in a vehicle heading southbound on Douglas County Road 1061, when police say their vehicle failed to stop at the intersection atU56. A second vehicle was traveling eastbound on U56, and struck the Strickell’s vehicle on the passenger side door.

Both vehicles ended up in the southeast ditch. The Strickell’s vehicle came to rest on its top facing the southwest, and the other vehicle came to rest right-side up with its wheels facing east.

Both Rodney and Dylan Strickell died in the crash. It is unknown what caused the car to continue through the intersection, however it is possible weather may have been a factor.
