JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. — Long lines. Several hours of waiting, that’s how many frustrated drivers describe their experience at the Kansas Department of Motor Vehicle.
Well, now Governor Sam Brownback says hold on! The governor’s hoping his new DMV modernization task force will help ease the pain.
The task force hopes to accomplish several goals including: study other states’ motor vehicle facilities, determine how to improve customer service at the Kansas offices and make them more efficient, more problem-free that the DMV offices in the Sunflower State “will become a national role model.”
Several drivers at the DMV office in Mission on Friday, say the much-needed changes are shifts in the right direction.
“I didn’t experience any major problems today, but three weeks ago my mother went to the DMV and she waited for five hours,” Kimberly Pierce said.
“I don’t know really what else they can do,” Daniel Rios said. “I really like their text system that notififes you when you’re next in line.”
A few months ago, the Department of Motor Vehicle’s new computer system encountered many problems, which many drivers say led to chaos, confusion and constant long lines.
The Governor’s Task Force is comprised of car dealers, bankers and other “vehicle-related experts.” The group will meet again on October 12 and ultimately make recommendations in the coming months.
