Benjamin Walker stars in the action-horror entry, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter."

ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE HUNTER
RUSS
According to a goofy new Hollywood splatter-fest, the Great Emancipator was really a great eviscerator. In “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” the 16th President is depicted as an axe-wielding killer of the bloodsucking undead.
SHAWN
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a surprisingly effective and super fun mash-up. It’s is a wild glorious ride that furiously breaks all of the rules and provides endless bundles of unabashed fun. But there is a deft balance of silly and straight-faced historical accuracy.
RUSS
Benjamin Walker dispatches the demons with considerable flair and this beautifully produced and visually striking movie contains a couple of impressive action sequences. But the movie is as serious as a corpse and it’s a one-note affair that lacks a dramatic arc. It also aims to make some kind of social commentary by equating the evil of slavery with vampirism…and that’s a very slippery slope.
SHAWN
Yes, the  premise is ridiculous but it’s executed with razor sharp precision and a goofy swagger that makes this movie a delicious watch. The movie could have been more over the top but as it is it’s a well-produced cinematic fantasy trip that flips the script on old Abe, the Civil War and everything you thought you knew about vampires.

BRAVE
RUSS
Pixar offers us their first female heroine in “Brave,” an action fantasy set in ancient Scotland.
SHAWN
“Brave” is a surprisingly dull and sparse animated feature from the guys at Pixar.
RUSS
As is par for the course with Pixar, the animation is stunning. But this time out the story and pacing aren’t quite up to their usual high standards. Still, “Brave” is an entertaining lark that will have special appeal for mothers and daughters.
SHAWN
The story has an important central core but is so drab you won’t care. The film also has very few magical moments and a tone that will make the very young disinterested.
This is easily the weakest Pixar movie ever. Sure our heroine has cute red hair but that’s it. Take away the hair and you’ll be snoozing.
