OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A woman says she’s overwhelmed after receiving some surprise gifts from pop music superstar Taylor Swift. One of the singer’s bodyguards personally delivered $1,989 to help Rebekah Bortniker pay off her college student loans.
Bortniker is the same age as Swift, 25, both were born in 1989, the title of the singer’s latest album.
Rebekah’s mom recorded video on Monday of Bortniker opening the special delivery from Swift. Inside the box was a personal note from Swift explaining what the money was for, a Polaroid photo of the singer painting a work of art for Rebekah. The painting with her name, “Beks,” also was included. And Bortniker received one of Swift’s necklaces, inscribed: “Was mine now yours.”
“A couple of days before she even followed me or anything on Tumblr I made a post about how I was overwhelmed about how I would pay back my loans because I am still looking for a job right now,” Rebekah said. “She saw that at one point and this is what happened.”
Bortniker says she knew Taylor Swift had sent some fans Christmas gifts around the holidays, but nothing this personal. She says the singer found her on social media, after Rebekah had posted a video of the superstar and her friends with music from the theme song of the TV show “Friends.”
Bortniker has tickets to see Taylor Swift when she performs at Sprint Center in September. She says the only thing better than the gifts she has received would be to meet and thank the performer in person when she comes to Kansas City.
