CLAYCOMO, Mo. — In a development that’s very important to the Kansas City economy, Ford rolled out its newest commercial vehicle Wednesday. The 2015 Ford Transit Van is the first of its kind built in North America.
The transit van will be built at the Ford assembly plant in Claycomo, north of the Missouri River. Missouri Governor Jay Nixon was on hand to recognize workers there on a “job well done.”
Ford also builds the van in Turkey and China, but nowhere else in the United States or North America. The Kansas City launch brought 2,000 jobs to the metro since last August. One of the new workers said she already feels a sense of pride when she goes to work.
“I’m very new, but it’s very exciting to see everything come together from the very concept of it coming through the body shop and paint. It arrives as an empty shell and then you see it develop into these beautiful vans, it’s awesome,” said Debi Kinney.
Because of Transit production, Ford is planning to add 1,000 more jobs in the metro area in September.
