KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Ford is calling it its toughest, smartest, most capable F-150 ever. Auto workers are calling it a source of pride, and more importantly — job security.
The new Ford F-150 to be built in suburban Kansas City was unveiled at the Auto Show on Wednesday, and it has some truck lovers falling head over heels.
In its shiniest moment, this Ford F-150 is the center of attention for dozens of auto lovers- including some that are going to be building it soon like Gerald Wilson.
“We’ve always built the best trucks here, and we want to continue to do that, most of us drive what we build too,” Wilson said.
The newest Ford F-150 will be built in Claycomo after Ford executives say they’ve made about a billion dollar investment in the local Ford plant.
So what makes the new truck special?
The body is made of aluminum alloy with a steel frame, making it lighter. Some industry analysts say it’s a risky move by Ford, questioning how buyers will respond to a pickup not made out of steel, but Ford says it’s giving customers what they want most.
“We were able to shed up to 700 pounds on each truck, and so that translates almost directly to more of that capability and more of that fuel economy,” said Eric Peterson, the F-150 Marketing Manager.
