KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs returned from Charlotte, North Carolina early Monday morning looking forward to a well-deserved day off. As they look ahead to Saturday night’s third preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings at Arrowhead Stadium, we’ve found out why All-Pro running back Jamaal Charles missed Sunday night’s loss at the hands of the Carolina Panthers.

“Well, he was actually carrying a box down from the dorms,” said head coach Andy Reid. “He came down the grassy slope there and rolled his foot over on the curve. It was that simple and that was it. He went up to Rick (Burkholder) and he was hurting that night and the next day he woke up he was feeling a little bit better. He is feeling better today. We’re optimistic about it. Initially there was a little concern, but he had all the stuff done on it, the X-ray, the MRI’s and all that done on it. It was clear.”

Also missing from Sunday night’s game was safety Eric Berry. Both were among a group of players that didn’t even make the road trip. The Chiefs will resume training camp at headquarters near Arrowhead Stadium this week. Unlike workouts at Missouri Western in St. Joseph the last month, workouts are now closed to the general public.
