KANSAS CITY, Kan. — You’re 23 times more likely to have a wreck when you’re texting and driving.
“The average text, you’re driving blind for the length of a football field,” said Chris Lester from AT&T.
Texting is the No. 1 mode of communication for teenagers. Because of these statistics AT&T hopes to teach teens how dangerous texting and driving can be with their program called “It Can Wait.” As part of that program, they’re offering a free texting and driving simulator at the Legends on Thursday, May 31 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“It’s a serious situation,” Lester said. “We’ve spent billions of dollars across the country developing this 4G network and the LT network in Kansas City, and it’s great technology, and we love having everybody connected all over the place all the time, but we also want to be out front talking about how to use that technology safely. We are not in any way, shape or form encouraging anybody to text and drive, and that’s really the point here.”
On Thursday drivers can get behind the wheel of a texting and driving simulator at the Legends. The event is free an open to the public.
