OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A suicide bomber killed Lt. Justin Sisson in Afghanistan last Monday.
American flags line the streets leading up to the church where hundreds came to pay their respects on Friday.
Inside a flag-draped coffin guarded by two fellow Army soldiers holds Sisson’s body. Friends say the 23-year-old died too soon. But they say they know he was killed doing what he love — defending the country he was so passionate about.
The 2007 Blue Valley West graduate joined the Army after a stint in the National Guard where he deployed to Iraq and after graduating from Florida State University where he was a member of the ROTC.
Friends describe him as the All-American boy — with a heart as big as the Kansas Sky.
A young man who will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Sisson will be laid to rest Saturday morning at Church of the Resurrection at 10. His burial follows at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
He will be laid to rest near his two grandfathers, the family said.
