Dog struck by semi said to be improving, shelter still seeks assistance

MERRIAM, Kan. — Employees at the Great Plains SPCA report the dog critically injured on Tuesday after being struck by a semi in Independence, Mo., is improving.

In an email, the Great Plains SPCA said, “Jennifer is stable and doing much better, lifting her head and perking up her ears.”

But even with her improvements, Jennifer is still in need of extensive care. The Great Plains SPCA took her to BluePearl Veterinary Partners for 24/7 care. An orthopedic surgeon will evaluate her and try to save one of her legs from being amputated.

“With more medical help required than we’d first expected, we are seeking more donations from the community to help cover her medical costs and the other pets in our care,” the SPCA wrote in their email.

The center is asking for the community’s help in two ways:

1)     Help them cover Jennifer’s medical costs – her care could cost upwards of $2,000. To do so, please click here –> www.GreatPlainsSPCA.org/Jennifer

2)     Help them find her owner.

If you recognize this dog, please contact the Great Plains SPCA’s Veterinary Care Center in Merriam at (913) 742-7310.
