KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Detectives continued their investigation into the death of man who was taken out of Arrowhead Stadium unconscious Sunday evening.
According to a statement released by the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department, at approximately 5:20 p.m. Sunday, police were called to a disturbance in Lot A of the Truman Sports Complex. When officers arrived they were informed that an individual was being transported to a local hospital in critical condition. That person was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police said it appeared the deceased, who was a white male in his mid 20s, was inside a red Chevrolet Crew Cab that did not belong to him. When the owner of the vehicle discovered the man, a struggle ensued. The man collapsed at the scene and was then taken to a local hospital by the Kansas City Fire Department.
“I know it had nothing to do with the actual game itself. Everything happened out here in the parking lot,” said KCPD Public Safety Officer Darin Snapp. “The hospital has told us that there were no obvious signs of how the person passed away so, we don’t know. The witnesses say that there were no guns or anything.”
Three persons of interest are in police custody and detectives are interviewing several witnesses. Police said further information will be released as the investigation continues.
Kansas City, Mo., Police Chief Darryl Forte confirmed via Twitter the incident did not involve fan rivalry.
FOX 4 news editor Danial Logston was at Arrowhead Sunday and tweeted that a friend’s car was surrounded by the crime scene so they were not able to leave. Several other reports of cars being blocked popped up on Twitter as well.
