KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri police are continuing to look for 39-year-old Marina Bischoff, who was last seen leaving the Shoal Creek Patrol Division the morning of May 28.

Police say Marina was arrested a little after 10:30 p.m. May 27 for DUI and leaving the scene of a crash. She eventually returned to the crash and refused an ambulance at the scene. She told officers she had been drinking. They took her to jail at Shoal Creek Patrol off Pleasant Valley Rd.

She was later released on a signature bond, per COVID-19 protocols to reduce detention populations of non-violent offenders, according to police. Jail staff deemed her competent to be released. KCPD said she left the station with everything she arrived with.

She was first reported missing by police on Thursday, June 4. 

“We just want to find her,” Brother Victor Bischoff said.

Victor and his family are worried sick, 745 miles away in Austin, Texas. 

“This pit in our stomach is just, it’s killing us,” Victor said.

Marina is described as standing 5’3 and weighs 110 pounds and has brown hair and eyes. She was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

Witnesses saw her walk east from the station to a neighborhood at Crystal and Corrington. She came back to Pleasant Valley Road and was seen walking toward Interstate 435. That was the last sighting of her, according to police.

Victor believes the DUI incident has more to do with Marina’s mental illness and depression.
 
He said Marina works as a social worker at Children’s Mercy. With the lingering threat of COVID-19, her job there changed. He said she had been helping in urgent care.
 
Victor is sure the pandemic played a part in her depression and isolation worsening. 
 
“Marina is a very loving and caring person,” Victor said. “She uses a lot of her experience with dealing with depression in her favor to be able to help kids that are in challenging situations.”

Police have led searches with nearly 100 volunteers along I-435 from Pleasant Valley Road to Brighton. Missouri Search and Rescue Canines also participated in the search. Police have searched the wooded areas surrounding Shoal Creek Patrol Division and will continue to search.

Marina lives near 152 Highway and Indiana, according to police. She is a social worker for Children’s Mercy Hospital. She frequents a church in south Kansas City.

Children’s Mercy Hospital sent FOX4 a statement saying “Marina Bischoff is a social worker at Children’s Mercy. Last week we learned from Kansas City, Missouri police that Marina is missing and that they are investigating. All of us at Children’s Mercy are hoping for her safe return.”

Victor and his family drove in to help. But without any clues turning up, his family is holding onto hope.

“We want her to know that everyone’s looking for her and we love her very much,” Victor said.
 
Victor said at last check, police were working to secure a warrant to search Marina’s car, which holds her laptop and perhaps other clues as to where she may be.
