KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Mayor Sly James lit his first Christmas Tree as mayor on Friday night at Crown Center.

The tree is decorated with more than 7,000 white twinkling lights and is the biggest Christmas tree in the metro, standing at 100 ft. tall.

However, James said it’s not about the tree. The tree represents the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund, which helps local families to have a happy holiday as well. This year, it’s expected that $80,000 will be raised for the fund, nearly double what the fund raised last year.
