KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Enough is enough.
That was the message from members of the Kansas City, Kansas faith community on Saturday as dozens marched to the Greater Faith Baptist Church to Stop the Violence.
Ethel Douglas said since she moved to Kansas City, Kansas a few months ago she’s seen it all, and none of it good.
“In the last month I’ve seen so much crime in this neighborhood that it’s like almost out of control,” said Douglas.
Saturday she and dozens from KCK churches met to march and send a message.
“What I would like to see is a day of peace. If it was just one day where nobody got hurt from gun violence,” said Eighth Street Baptist Church Deacon Clarence Logan.
Organizers said they’re on a mission to reclaim their community by stopping the violence.
“There’s a sense of urgency in our community when you see the helpless, the hopeless and the hurt,” said Rev. David Lee with Guiding Star Baptist Church. “Let’s just do something. Let’s quit talking about doing and lets actually start.”
Reverend Lee said together they can turn things around.
“One at a time. We take one young man, one young lady. That’s all they want. They want love,” said Lee.
Douglas said despite the drive-by shootings, homicides and robberies she’s not going anywhere.
“More mad than scared,” she said, adding that she wants the same thing as everyone else: peace.
“Stop the violence,” said Douglas. “We just need to get along.”
