LENEXA, Kan. — How do you get more people to church on Super Bowl Sunday? You preach about football! It was the theme of a special service at Journey Church of Lenexa Sunday morning.
It was no ordinary church service! There were fog machines, a football field on stage equipped with goal posts, a half time show and everyone from the congregation to Pastors wore their favorite team colors.
Lead Pastor Dr. David St. John said he wanted to bring the fun of the big game to his congregation. His sermon was all about faith and football.
“Like in football just because you fumble, just because you make a mistake, just because you don’t feel like you’re prepared all the time doesn’t mean it is over,” said Pastor St. John.
Shawnee Mission West Head Football Coach Tim Callaghan helped out with Sunday’s service. He said teamwork is one lesson he tries to pass along to his players.
“I think it’s very important in a public school you have a lot of different faiths, but one thing is that they have to have faith in each other.”
