KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A bolt of lightning sparked a fire at a Kansas City, Kansas home near S. 15th Street & Lowell on Sunday. One of the people living in the home says the thunder was so loud it startled her.

She didn’t even realize the house was on fire right away until a neighbor called 911. Randy Loomis says there isn’t a single part of the house that didn’t get damaged by the fire or the downpour of rain from the storms on Sunday.

“Everything is water and smoke damage,”Loomis said. “All the way to the basement.”

Loomis’ wife called him at work to alert him about the fire. Loomis has lived there most of his life.

“I bought this house when I was 19-years-old and I’ve lived here ever since,” he said. “I spent a lot of time here.”

Loomis packed up some of the things he could save on Monday but so many pictures and sentimental items are lost. The good news is that this insurance company says the home is not a total loss. He can repair and rebuild.

“It really is a heartache but we can patch it we can put er back together,” he said.

Loomis is being told that it will take six to eight months to repair and rebuild but he’s looking forward to moving back in.
