KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Hundreds lined the streets in Kansas City, Mo., on Wednesday to pay tribute to fallen firefighter John Mesh.

Mesh and Larry Leggio died battling an apartment fire last week.
People who live and work in old northeast Kansas City where Mesh was stationed lined the streets for he processional.
Davita Haynes says it was important for her 9-year-old son to see the tribute.
“Because I want him to understand why they died and what they died for,” Haynes said. “To honor them.”
“Because they are heroes,” her son said.
Investigators at the fire scene paused to pay their respects to Mesh and his family before getting back to work.
They are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
